I'd say you're in a golden position for some reverse witnessing my friend! She might still have a cult personality but if she's been out for a while, she might be into doing some 'independent research.' No need to out yourself. Say you have some JW relatives who pressured you to join (true) and so you did your homework and found them to be not what they said they were

I need some assistance!
by Kool Jo ini just found out that a co-worker of mine is a ex-jw....she's being pressured to go back to the khall...she says everytime she goes to visit her family, they're telling her how jehovah still loves her...blah blah blah...thankfully she has her own apartment!.
i do see how her upbringing in the cult has affected her...she's soft and overly kind, but she's a real sweetheart...the down side: people take advantage of her.. should i tell her that i too am a jw and understands what she's going through with her family or should i just tell her that "spirituality is a personal thing and don't feel guilted into doing something you don't want" ect....the thing is, she talks alot and if i tell her that i'm suppose to be a jw, then the entire workplace will know.... what should i do?
my only aim is to have her not feel guilted in going back...she said her family has been trying to get her back in, but she's resisting it...the other issue, her son stays with her jw sister (she didn't disclose why)...and my co-worker tells me that her son is becoming a "jw convert".. please i need some advice!.

Just this simple fact of life is proof of God....
by EndofMysteries ini'll be curious for any alternative plausible explanations for this...... .
every lifeform on earth, humans, plants, bacteria, cells, anything with life originated with other life.
all trees come from living seeds from other trees, etc.

EOM this has been discussed at length on this board but sure, I'll bite.
No, abiogenesis has not been recreated in a lab in the way we would have needed it to be to start evolution. That is no reason to discard the whole thing, as organic self-replicating compounds have been created using basic inorganic matter.
Consider this: all living creatures have something in common... DNA. All of your DNA is written in the same "language" as every other living thing on earth. The reason you are a human and not a squash, is because of your genes. I'm sure you're not ready to challenge genetics. The fact that DNA is all written the same way for every living creature points to a single point of origin. A single event where life began. If god did this, why not write out DNA code in a more suitable format for different creatures? Why create beings with the genetic challenges they have? Is he lazy? many genomes have been traced and mapped, and every time it shows evolution to be true.
But this thread isn't about evolution is it. So EOM let me ask you this: are you willing to resign god's hand in creation of life to the first single celled organism? Because the fact of evolution, if you want to stick god in there, doesn't need help.
You mentioned that we are made of dust... Yes technically so. Everything in the universe is made of the same stuff, so why shouldn't we? You ask why couldn't life have come from intelligence... Why should it? It certainly could have, but there is no more reason to believe a supernatural being created anything in our universe than there is to believe aliens planted us here. It is simply implausible and unnecessary.

What is the biblical justification for says that a creative days is 7000 years ?
by trackregister99 inhello, what is the biblical proof of that a creative days is 7000 years.
i read in the photodrama that russell says that a creative days is 7000 years.
and in 1965 edition of "make sure of all things" page 134 that was changed from "7000 years" to "about 7000 years".. the bible not says the duration of a creative day.

CS: it doesn't matter, one of that matters because any answer that comes that less than 4.54 billion years for the earth and 13.77 (thought it was 13.72?) billion years for the universe is wrong. And to tackle that would be, as mentioned above, to prove general relativity, special relativity, optics, biology, physics, chemistry, astronomy, statistics, mathematics and a number of various other branches of science wrong.
Even the Mormons know not to do that.

You're old friends may be recently awakened and all alone.......
by EndofMysteries ini recently found out several old friends have left and been on their own so to say.
it gave me an idea to check up as best as i can on my old friends because we all know many are alone when they first get out.
if you find any, you'll also have a special connection of having gone through the same thing, etc.

I cant believe its just me..
by zeb inon the weeks run up to conventions my wife has appaling moods we have door slamming, stomping and far less conversation than normal.
it is tragically and for our handicapped daughter as well the same afterwards.
it is like walking through mines the slightest and i mean slightest thing and boom!.

Funny, its usually me being cranky just before a convention, knowing I have to sit through all that drivel for days. Wifey is usually trying to calm me down so I don't make a scene squirming in my chair and making faces at whats being said.
Don't forget it's several days of her. Being reminded how hard done by she is and how you're gonna die in the big A.

Design or Non-Design, finally we know, Darwin's Doubt
by QC inif you want to read the definitive explanation on fossils and how life arrived its covered in darwins doubt, by s.c. meyer.
this is a game changer.
the bomb!.

Keep it up, QC. You are making more unbelievers everytime you show up in this thread. I love it. If I was still on the fence, or even interested in this debate as a doubting JW, you would have had me convinced that there is no good argument for ID.
It could be your incompetence or your arrogance... Both show your ignorance.
To any lurkers: do your homework. Silly books like this are the best argument creation has... And yet there is a mountain of evidence to the contrary! There are many well written books available that will give you everything you need to properly understand evolution. Don't let me convince you, let QC And Steven Meyer do that. Personally, creation was the only thing holding me to a belief in Christianity. I felt I owed god something, even though the bible shows he's a dick. Understanding evolution was a major turning point for me, it can be for you too.

Lunacy or apostasy?
by Separation of Powers inover the years i have heard some really strange beliefs shared openly with others in the congregation.
one sister, for example, stated that you could not be cremated because then "all your molecules will be spread around and jehovah couldn't put you back together.
" kinda sounds like she got stuck in a nursery rhyme there, a la humpty dumpty.. .

Maybe they will stay "hands off" because there is literally no scriptural basis for this belief. The biblical support for the new earth, resurrection et al that this is purely eisegesis. Funny how a JW brain can sift through the dogmas to believe how they like!

Jehovah's Witness boy fights court for right to die
by jwfacts inhttp://www.smh.com.au/nsw/religious-boy-fights-court-for-right-to-die-20130917-2tx5u.html.
this is tragic.
the boy is 17, and earlier this year the courts ruled that he was to be forced a transfusion.

The children's hospital said he had a "cocooned upbringing" how true. At 17, despite my behaviour I probably would have refused blood too. And while it would have been a conscious choice by a competent person, it wouldn't have been a well-informed one. A JW upbringing by definition shields one from objectively considering one's beliefs.
Is there anything we can do to help? Who can I email?
